The fate of three senior IPS officers, who were known for their proximity with the former chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, during the previous regime, is hanging in delicate balance. As the AP government has issued orders extending their suspension in the harassment case and illegal arrest of Mumbai actress Kadambari Jatwani, the present government is said to be moving slowly in taking action against them.
The order states that the suspension of former intelligence chief PSR Anjaneyulu, former Vijayawada CP Kantirana Tata and IPS officer Vishal Gunni has been extended for another six months. AP government Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand issued orders to this effect on Wednesday. The Chief Secretary order stated that their suspension is being extended till September 25, 2025.
Vijayanand said that the suspension of the three IPS officers has been extended after the recommendations of the review committee. Meanwhile, during the YSRCP regime, YSRCP leader Vidyasagar harassed Mumbai actress Jatwani. Based on his complaint, the police, who registered a case, went to Mumbai on a whim and arrested Jatwani’s family.
Later, they harassed and threatened her to withdraw her case of sexual assault against a prominent businessman in Mumbai. There were widespread allegations that the three IPS officers were involved in this. After the coalition government came to power, the police registered a case on the harassment incident.
The coalition government transferred the case to the CID to ensure justice for the victim. To this end, criminal cases were registered against YSRCP leader Vidyasagar, PSR Anjaneyulu, CP Kantirana Tata and Vishal Gunni. The government also suspended three officers.
The accused Vidyasagar was arrested and released on conditional bail after about 76 days. On the other hand, the officers also approached the AP High Court to dismiss the case registered against them. However, the CID seems to be going slow in taking further action against these three officers.
