YSRCP says state-wide petition drive for farmers’ issues sees strong participation

In a massive outreach programme led by the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), party leaders and workers across Andhra Pradesh submitted memorandums to district collectors highlighting the acute problems being faced by farmers, especially the shortage of urea and fertilizers.

The party urged the government to resolve the fertilizer crisis immediately and ensure that all essential agricultural inputs are made available at subsidized rates.

YSRCP’s memorandum also demanded that additional fertilizer stocks be provided to meet the rising demand this season. In every district, senior party leaders, MLAs, MLCs, and parliamentary observers took part in the campaign.

They pointed out that the breakdown of the RBK (Rythu Bharosa Kendras) system under the current coalition regime has left farmers helpless, forcing them to wait in long queues for fertilizers.

In districts like Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, Anakapalle, Eluru, and others, YSRCP leaders submitted detailed representations to collectors. Leaders highlighted that despite repeated appeals, the government has failed to act, resulting in distress among farmers. They noted that over 250 farmers have committed suicide in the past 14 months alone due to government apathy.

The party criticised the coalition for failing to deliver even minimum support, accusing the administration of turning a blind eye to the hardships of the farming community. YSRCP reaffirmed its commitment to standing with farmers and warned that continued negligence would lead to larger protests.

Meanwhile, former Minister and YSRCP Guntur District President Ambati Rambabu strongly criticized the TDP-led coalition government for failing to ensure timely supply of fertilizers to farmers during the crucial Kharif season.

Speaking to the media after submitting a memorandum to the Guntur District Collector on behalf of YSRCP, he alleged that the government’s inefficiency has resulted in a severe shortage of fertilizers across the state.

He recalled that during the YSRCP regime, essential fertilizers were made available to farmers through RBKs (Rythu Bharosa Kendras) well before the beginning of the agricultural season.

However, under Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership, the entire agriculture sector has been neglected, he alleged. Ambati said the RBK system, which once stood as a backbone for farmers, has now been dismantled and rendered useless.

As a result, he deplored that farmers are being forced to buy fake fertilizers in the black market, incurring losses and endangering crop health. He blamed Chandrababu’s indifference and repeated that his infamous comment “agriculture is a loss-making venture” is now being reflected in government policy.

He warned the government that if fertilizers are not made available immediately, a state-wide farmers’ agitation would be inevitable. Several local YSRCP leaders from Guntur district joined the delegation during the meeting with the Collector.
