The YSR Congress Party has announced a rescheduled schedule for state-wide protests, as it attempts to oppose the alleged anti-people policies of the Telugu Desam Party-Jana Sena Party-Bharatiya Janata Party coalition government led by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.
The protests, which were initially scheduled for December 11, will now be carried out on December 13. According to the party, the decision to shift was taken in view of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) being enforced for the MLC by-elections in five districts. Even though the protests are a day behind schedule, the YSRCP is undeterred and will continue to bring into focus the failures of the coalition government and the issues being faced by the public.
YSRCP President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has called for intensification from party leaders and followers as regards redressal of public grievances and government incompetence. In the process of the campaign, protests against the critical issues in terms of the farmers would continue, such as a requirement of ₹20,000 investment support, minimum prices for the agricultural products so that the farmers could find it reasonable, and bring back free crop insurance plans. The movement will include district-wide rallies and the submission of memoranda to local authorities.
On December 27, the party will shift its attention to the recent hike in electricity tariffs. In a show of solidarity, YSRCP leaders, along with citizens, will march to SE offices and DISCOM CMD offices to submit petitions demanding an immediate rollback of the increased charges.
The YSRCP has also scheduled a protest on January 3 to address issues related to fee reimbursement for students. Accompanied by students, party leaders will approach collectorate offices to press for the release of pending arrears under the fee reimbursement and Vasathi Deevena schemes.
Through these protests, the YSRCP aims to bring public attention to pressing concerns affecting farmers, students, and the wider community, while holding the ruling coalition accountable for its policies and governance.
