YSR Congress MP and former MP of Hindupur, Gorantla Madhav, was detained for creating a scene at the office of Guntur district SP. The situation arose when Madhav, in a highly agitated state, tried to assault a suspect, Chebrolu Kiran Kumar, who was being held in police custody. The police promptly moved in and detained Madhav. His arrest was announced by the authorities within a short while.
The controversy started after ITDP activist Kiran Kumar passed indecent comments against YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s wife, YS Bharathi Reddy. The comments incited public fury, and Kiran was suspended from the ITDP. There were legal actions taken after this, and a case was registered against him. The Mangalagiri police arrested Kiran on Thursday and took him into custody to the Guntur SP office for further proceedings.
On hearing of Kiran’s transfer, Madhav, set to confront him, followed the police convoy in his vehicle. The Mangalagiri police moved quickly, however, and brought Kiran safely to the SP office.
In spite of security, Madhav, filled with fury, tried to attack Kiran when he was being brought in the custody of the police within the SP office. Identifying the risk, the police intervened promptly, thwarting the attack, and took Madhav into custody there and then. The arrest was confirmed by the district SP, and the incident was released to the public.
