Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh Congress President YS Sharmila has voiced strong criticism over the central government’s announcement of a ₹11,440 crore financial package for the Vizag Steel Plant. Sharmila stated that the package does not amount to a solution for the plant’s struggles or a recognition of the dignity of the people of Andhra Pradesh. She argued that the financial assistance would not alleviate the plant’s ongoing financial troubles.
In her remarks, Sharmila clarified that the package only provides temporary relief and does not constitute a permanent fix. She outlined that the real solution lies in merging the plant into a sale, allocating mining resources to the facility, and expanding the plant’s capacity to 20 million tons.
“The real solution to the Vizag Steel Plant’s issues lies in ensuring its sustainability through proper structural changes, not in hollow promises,” Sharmila said, criticizing the central government’s assertion that the plant would be ranked number one within two years. She called this claim a deceptive attempt to placate the people of Andhra Pradesh.
