AP Congress President YS Sharmila has slammed the central government for its lack of response to the ongoing floods in Andhra Pradesh. Sharmila pointed out that the Vijayawada Railway Division generates ₹6,000 crores annually for the center, and Visakhapatnam houses the ‘Rail Neer’ plant, which supplies drinking water. Despite this, the center has not provided basic relief, including drinking water, to flood victims. She stated that even her request on behalf of the Congress party for free distribution of Rail Neer bottles to the affected areas was ignored. “How can the Modi government be so indifferent when people, who contribute significantly to national revenue, are facing such a severe crisis?” Sharmila questioned.
Sharmila also criticized TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu for continuing to support Prime Minister Modi amidst the central government’s alleged neglect of the state’s flood victims. She stated that instead of collecting money from children, Chandrababu should be demanding funds from the BJP. “For the last 10 years, 25 MPs from the state have been serving Modi’s interests. Now is the time to demand ₹10,000 crores from the center, not make publicity stunts by collecting from children,” Sharmila asserted, adding that the state needs immediate financial relief, not mere conversations under the guise of political alliances.
