Andhra Pradesh Congress chief YS Sharmila has sparked intense political debate with a fiery statement aimed at both the ruling TDP-led alliance and the opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). Marking the one-year anniversary of the coalition government, Sharmila called June 4 a “People’s Betrayal Day,” accusing both sides of letting down the very citizens who voted for change.
Taking direct aim at Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Sharmila alleged that the ruling alliance has misused the public mandate it received to correct past wrongs. “People voted to end corruption, mismanagement, and disorder. But all they’ve received in return is one year of stalling, broken promises, and misleading narratives under the guise of development,” she stated in a sharply worded social media post.
Sharmila didn’t hold back in her criticism of the TDP-led government’s inaction. She slammed the leadership for ignoring key issues such as the reduced height of the Polavaram project, lack of action on Special Category Status, and the job cuts at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. “While they claim to rebuild the state, their actions show otherwise. Instead of progress, people are burdened with rising electricity bills, halted welfare programs, and empty promises,” she charged.
She also expressed deep disappointment over the government’s silence on central issues. “They couldn’t even raise their voice against the BJP’s betrayal, including Polavaram’s downgrade and injustice to minorities through the Wakf Bill. What happened to the loud slogans of rebuilding Andhra Pradesh?” she questioned.
But her attack didn’t end with the ruling government.
YS Sharmila also tore into the YSRCP and its leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, calling him an ineffective opposition leader. Taking a dig at the party’s symbolic observation of “Backstab Day,” Sharmila quipped, “If backstabbing were a trademark, Jagan would own the rights.”
Recalling her past experiences, she accused Jagan of using family ties for political gains and abandoning the very people who supported him. “He’s missing from the Assembly, silent on the coalition’s failures, and avoiding real public engagement. Hosting press conferences from the comfort of home isn’t how you represent the people,” she stated.
With her strong and dual-sided attack, Sharmila positioned the Congress as a bold and alternative voice in Andhra Pradesh politics.
