At a time when the Supreme Court is not pleased with the inordinate delay in starting the trail in cases related to former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, he sought permission from the CBI court to travel abroad in September this year. Jagan filed a petition with the CBI court in Nampally to allow him to travel to the UK to visit his daughters who have been pursuing higher education there.
Along with Jagan Mohan Reddy, his close aide and Rajyasabha MP Vijay Sai Reddy, who is also facing numerous charges relating to disproportionate assets cases, also filed a petition with the CBI court to grant him permission to travel to Europe in September and October on a holiday. Both Jagan and Vijay Sai filed separate petitions for their travel abroad.
While arguments on Vijay Sai Reddy’s petition have already been completed and the judgement from the special court will be out on August 30th, the CBI sought time to file a counter on Jagan Mohan Reddy’s petition. The court adjourned the case fo Wednesday.
Jagan Mohan Reddy travelled abroad in May this year after the completion of the general elections in Andhra Pradesh. He returned to the state just before the election results.
This is going to be the first trip for Jagan Mohan Reddy after facing a crushing defeat in the assembly elections. His party secured only 11 seats out of 175 seats and lost the opposition status as well. After the election results, he confined himself to Bengaluru and occasionally travelling to Vijayawada.
As both of them have been on bail for the last eleven years, Undi MLA and former Narsapuram MP Raghurama Krishna Raju approached the Supreme Court to cancel the bail and expedite the trail. Despite repeated instructions from the apex court to speed up the trail in his cases, there is hardly any progress so far.
