Youth Congress workers’ attack on the Telangana BJP office in Nampally, Hyderabad on Tuesday has turned violent as workers of both the parties resorted to physical clashes. Youth Congress took up this protest in protest against Delhi BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri’s abusive comments on Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi.
Eggs and stones were thrown at the BJP office. The situation became tense as BJP leaders retaliated against Congress workers. Workers from both sides fought with sticks. Police foiled an attempt by a large number of Youth Congress workers, led by state president Shiv Charan, to besiege the BJP state office.
The Youth Congress had planned to march from Gandhi Bhavan to the BJP office and besiege it. As a result, a large number of police personnel were deployed at Gandhi Bhavan. However, some Youth Congress activists, sensing that the police would stop them from coming out if they reached Gandhi Bhavan, went straight to besiege the BJP office in Nampally.
The BJP workers there attacked back. In this process, Congress workers threw stones at the BJP office. This made the situation even more tense. A BJP worker was injured in the head after stones were pelted at the office. BJP workers chased Congress workers with sticks.
A large police force was deployed to disperse the workers of both parties. Congress workers demanded legal action against Ramesh Bidhuri’s comments on Priyanka Gandhi. Ramesh Bidhuri, who is contesting the Delhi Assembly elections as a BJP candidate from Kalkaji constituency, made controversial remarks.
Speaking at a meeting held on Sunday said that if he wins, he will make the roads in the constituency as smooth as Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi’s cheeks. Bidhuri retracted his comments after an uproar broke out.
On the other hand, in the wake of the attack by Congress workers on the BJP office in the morning, the BJP Yuva Morcha left for Gandhi Bhavan in the afternoon. Authorities, who had information about the siege in advance, deployed a large number of police in the area.
The roads were closed on that route to prevent BJP workers from coming out. The police stopped the BJP workers who were coming from other directions to attack. As the situation became tense, the police resorted to lathi charge. On the other hand, some workers reached Gandhi Bhavan and tore the flexi banners of the Congress leaders. The Yuva Morcha workers moved forward, pushing the barricades set up by the police to stop them.
