The Andhra Pradesh government has issued directives on the allocation of funds from the World Bank and Asian Development Bank (ADB) to advance sustainable urban development and infrastructure projects in Amaravati. The combined loan assistance, valued at ₹15,000 crore, aims to build high-standard infrastructure, green buildings, and enhanced employment opportunities within the capital region.
The CRDA (Capital Region Development Authority) has been instructed to prioritize plans that establish Amaravati as a model public capital. This includes projects focusing on primary roads, ducts, drainage systems, flood-prevention canals, water reservoirs, and safe drinking water facilities.
Following approval from the Union Ministry of Finance, the CRDA’s proposals have also received endorsement from the World Bank and ADB. Both institutions committed $800 million each to support Amaravati’s urban development, with remaining funds to be secured by the state government in cooperation with the central government. The CRDA Commissioner has been authorized to finalize these financial arrangements with the World Bank and ADB.
As part of the implementation, a special account will facilitate the phased release of funds aligned with the development plan. The government has also made budgetary provisions to support this initiative, establishing a dedicated action plan under the CRDA Commissioner’s oversight. Special Chief Secretary of the Municipal Department, G. Ananta Ramu, issued the formal directives. CRDA Commissioner Kataneni Bhaskar is expected to sign the loan agreements with the World Bank and ADB in Delhi over the next two days.
