The World Bank has reportedly expressed its willingness to give a loan of Rs. 15,000 crores in the first phase for the construction of the capital Amaravati as proposed in the annual budget presented recently by the central government. However, the World Bank has decided to provide this amount together with the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Apart from this, there is information that the issue of providing more financial support in the future is also being discussed. In this context, a high-level delegation from the World Bank and ADB will visit the capital extensively from August 19 to 27. They will discuss with the State Government and CRDA officials on various aspects related to loan sanction.
It may be recalled that a four-member World Bank team that visited Amaravati recently had a meeting with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, besides other officials. In fact, the World Bank was ready to lend for capital construction before 2019. It had agreed to give a loan of Rs.3,500 crore in the first tranche along with AIIB.
However, at this juncture with the change of government in the state, as the then Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy conveyed negatively to the central government on its need, both World Bank and AIIB cancelled their offer.
As the necessary process for this was also completed, now it became easy for the World Bank along with ADB to give loan to Amaravati as per the suggestion of the Centre. As most of the activities required for sanctioning the loan have been completed before 2019, it has now become easy to complete the remaining process and sanction it as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the World Bank ADB representative team will decide how much loan can be given project-wise in the capital. With this, CRDA Commissioner Bhaskar has been conducting key reviews with the officials of various departments to provide detailed reports to the team.
