Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu revealed that along with the establishment of new airports in AP, efforts are being made to increase services to major cities. He said that seven new airports will be made available in AP. At the same time, efforts are being made to establish direct flights from Gannavaram to New York.
The proposal to this extent was discussed in the recently held meeting of the Airport Advisory Committee. The Union Minister revealed that they are working on setting up new airports in Nellore, Ongole and Puttaparthi. For this, the Union Minister said that they will examine the places and soon lay the foundation stone for the new airports.
Rammohan Naidu said that earlier there were 74 airports across the country. After Narendra Modi took charge as the Prime Minister, this number has reached 157. The Minister said that a direct flight service has been started from Tirupati to Delhi, the national capital, for the convenience of devotees. He came to Tirupati by Indigo flight from Delhi on Saturday and inaugurated direct flight between Tirupati and Delhi.
Similarly, he said soon a decision will be taken in accordance with the demand for direct flights from Mumbai, Coimbatore and Calcutta to Tirupati. He said that measures will be taken to further develop the existing Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupati airports in AP and run more services.
He promised to increase connectivity from Tirupati airport. Rammohan Naidu revealed that the state government has proposed to establish airports at seven places including Srikakulam, Ongole, Nellore and Puttaparthi.
On the other hand, the Airport Advisory Committee meeting was held at Gannavaram International Airport. Several key proposals were discussed in this meeting. MP Balashauri revealed that plans are being prepared with the aim of establishing a direct flight from Vijayawada to New York by 2029. He said that they have consulted with the Center regarding the increase of international flight services to other parts of the country including Varanasi and Kochi.
