Vijay Hints at Political Plans, Says Future Depends on 2026 Polls

Kollywood actor Vijay has once again sparked speculation about his political entry, following remarks made by actress Mamitha Baiju, his co-star in the upcoming film Jana Gana Mana. According to Mamitha, the actor indicated that his future in cinema may depend on the outcome of the 2026 elections, without confirming whether the film would be his last.

Speaking during a recent media interaction, Mamitha recalled a conversation she had with Vijay during the shoot. “I asked him if Jana Gana Mana would be his final film. He responded by saying, ‘I can’t reveal that now. It depends on the 2026 election results,’” she said. The comments have added to mounting speculation that the actor may step away from cinema to pursue a full-time political career.

Mamitha also shared that the final day of filming was highly emotional for the entire team, including Vijay. “Even Vijay sir was visibly moved, which is why he couldn’t join the crew for group photos,” she noted. However, she declined to reveal any details about her role in the film, urging viewers to watch it on the big screen.

Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Gana Mana is a political action thriller featuring Vijay and Pooja Hegde in lead roles. The film is slated for release on January 9, 2026. Since its announcement, the project has been widely discussed as a potential swan song for the actor before entering politics.

Adding to the anticipation was the recently released promotional video titled The First Roar, unveiled on Vijay’s birthday. The video, showcasing Vijay in the role of a powerful police officer, received a tremendous response from fans and further intensified rumours surrounding his political ambitions.

With no official confirmation yet, Vijay’s statement — as conveyed by Mamitha — suggests that clarity on his political entry and film career will likely emerge only after the 2026 elections.
