Vijay Deverakonda on Retro Comparisons: “I’ll Comment After Watching It”

Vijay Deverakonda’s latest film Kingdom, directed by Gautam Tinnanuri, released in theaters on Thursday. The film’s team, including producer Naga Vamsi and lead actor Vijay Deverakonda, addressed the media, expressing gratitude to audiences for their response and discussing the film’s performance and future plans.

Producer Naga Vamsi revealed that the movie has recovered 50% of its overseas sales and is performing similarly in Rayalaseema. “In the Nizam region, we expect gross collections of around ₹8 crore, and Andhra Pradesh is also performing as expected,” he said.

Responding to comparisons between Kingdom and the film Retro, Vijay Deverakonda said, “I haven’t seen the movie yet. I’ll comment after watching it. But does the hero in Retro even have a brother?” On moving out of his character Soori, Vijay stated, “I’ve transitioned from that role and am now preparing for my next film with director Rahul Sankrityan.”

Discussing Kingdom Part 2, Naga Vamsi confirmed, “We’ll make Kingdom 2 after Vijay completes his ongoing projects. A big star will also join the cast.” Addressing the limited screen time of the heroine in the first installment, he added, “In Part 2, the heroine’s role will have more scope.”

On promotional activities, Naga Vamsi mentioned, “We held the trailer launch in Rayalaseema and the pre-release event in Telangana. The success event will take place in Andhra Pradesh on Monday.”
