Hyderabad police recently captured Vidadala Gopi, the brother-in-law of former minister Vidadala Rajini, who had been evading arrest for a while. Gopi, a German citizen, had managed to stay out of reach of the authorities for some time. Earlier, Rajini had claimed that Gopi was facing legal action due to his foreign nationality. After the YSRCP’s electoral loss, Gopi went into hiding, but he was eventually tracked down by police in Hyderabad.
Gopi was said to have extorted money from owners of stone crushers when Rajini was an MLA and a minister. Various complaints have been made against him, with people living in the Chilakaluripet constituency complaining of unprecedented levels of intimidation and corruption against him.
Together, Gopi and Rajini are believed to have turned their extortion activities into a highly profitable venture, accumulating considerable wealth. Following the YSRCP’s defeat, some individuals were reportedly refunded, while many others are still demanding the return of their money. Gopi continues to allegedly threaten people, while Rajini has tried to downplay the situation, calling it political retaliation. However, with investigations gaining momentum, there are rising concerns that Rajini might also face legal consequences soon.
