Veteran Actress And Producer Krishnaveni Passes Away At 102

Veteran actress and producer Krishnaveni, who played a pivotal role in shaping the Telugu film industry, passed away at the age of 102. She had been suffering from age-related health issues and breathed her last at her residence in Film Nagar on Sunday morning.  

Krishnaveni was instrumental in introducing several iconic artists to Telugu cinema. She launched Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR) with Mana Desam and also provided legendary music director Ghantasala with his first opportunity. Recognized as a respected producer, she contributed significantly to the industry’s growth.  

Born in Pangidi, West Godavari district, Krishnaveni developed an early interest in acting and entered the theater before making her film debut as a child artist in the 1936 film Anasuya. She later gained prominence in both Telugu and Tamil cinema, excelling as an actress and playback singer.  

Her foray into film production resulted in Mana Desam (1949), a landmark film that marked NTR’s first on-screen appearance. Her contributions to the industry have left an enduring legacy. Following her passing, several film personalities and admirers have been paying tribute, recalling her immense contributions to Indian cinema.
