Vasireddy Padma has emerged as a key figure within the Pyar brand in Andhra Pradesh, gaining prominence during the previous YSR Congress government. Her political career began with the Praja Rajyam Party, but it was her tenure with the YSRCP that significantly enhanced her visibility. Appointed by Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy as the chairperson of the Women’s Commission, she is known for her confrontations with opposition leader Chandrababu Naidu, including issuing him official notices. However, the political landscape has shifted dramatically.
As elections loom, Padma stepped down from her role as chairperson, hoping to secure a party ticket for the upcoming polls. Unfortunately for her, Jagan Mohan Reddy did not back her aspirations, leading her to distance herself from the YSR Congress Party. Recently, she criticized the Chief Minister sharply and filed a complaint with the Vijayawada police commissioner, alleging that former YSRCP MP Gorantla Madhav disclosed the identity of a rape victim. This complaint signifies her readiness to take a stand against the YSRCP.
Now that she has left the YSR Congress Party, discussions are swirling about Padma’s next political moves. She announced that she will reveal her decision within a week, highlighting her strong ties with various political factions. Padma mentioned her close relationship with Vijayawada MP Kesineni Chinni, hinting at her potential future alignment. Although she hasn’t made an official announcement yet, rumors suggest she may be leaning toward joining the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
Previously, Padma had set her sights on the Jaggaiahpet seat in the unified Krishna district. However, coalition leaders have confirmed that neither she nor Samineni Udayabhanu, who recently switched from the YSR Congress to Janasena, will receive that seat. Consequently, Padma is now exploring other opportunities within the district. With her anticipated move to the TDP, there are indications that she could be allocated a new seat following the upcoming electoral reorganization, opening new avenues for her political career.
