In a significant development, several close associates of former Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi have been arrested by the police in connection with the attack on TDP leader Kasani Ranga Babu. Among those arrested are Vamsi’s key aide Olupalli Mohan Ranga and several others, who have been taken to Kankipadu police station for further investigation.
The attack took place near the Park Elite Hotel in Gannavaram, where Kasani Ranga Babu had been invited for a discussion about a land issue but was assaulted upon his arrival. Ranga Babu sustained leg injuries and was immediately treated at Pinnamaneni Hospital. Based on his complaint, the police registered a case under Crime No. 42, with charges under Sections 326, 120B, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. The police have identified nine individuals as suspects in the case.
The case had remained dormant during the previous government’s tenure, but with the recent reopening of the investigation, police have arrested Olupalli Mohan Ranga, Surapaneni Anil, Ponnuru Seemayya, Anagani Ravi, Bhimavarapu Ramu, M. Babu, and Gurram Nani. One key suspect, identified as Sheshu, is still at large, and police are intensifying their efforts to apprehend him. Authorities are continuing their probe to determine the mastermind behind the attack.
This arrest is part of a broader series of controversies involving Vallabhaneni Vamsi and his associates, including an earlier attack on the TDP office in Gannavaram. Recently, Minister Kollu Ravindra confirmed in the Assembly that vigilance inquiries are underway against Vamsi. Additionally, sources reveal that Vamsi is currently not present in Gannavaram, further adding intrigue to the ongoing investigation.
