Udaipur Files Director to Move Supreme Court Against Delhi HC Stay

New Delhi: Filmmaker S. Bharat has announced that he will approach the Supreme Court after the Delhi High Court imposed a last-minute stay on the release of his film Udaipur Files, which was scheduled to hit theatres on Friday. The director expressed surprise over the development, stating that the Supreme Court had earlier rejected a similar plea seeking a ban on the film. He questioned how the High Court issued a stay despite that and confirmed his intention to seek legal recourse.

Udaipur Files is based on the 2022 killing of tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur and the subsequent events. The film features Vijay Raaz in the lead role, with Rajniesh Duggal and others in key roles. The trailer’s release sparked objections from various political parties, who argued that the film could threaten communal harmony. Although the film underwent censor board clearance with certain changes, a petition in the Delhi High Court led to the stay order. The sudden legal hurdle has now put the film’s release on hold.
