A shocking incident in Andhra Pradesh has sparked outrage after a Railway TTE allegedly harassed a 20-year-old student. The misconduct reportedly occurred during her train journey, raising serious concerns over passenger safety. The accused, Abhijit Kumar (27), allegedly abused his position while on duty. He served under the South Central Railway zone, controlled by the central government.
Reports state the incident occurred on October 8. The young woman boarded a train from Narsapur, West Godavari district, heading to Nellore. Shortly after departure, the TTE reportedly sat beside the student. He allegedly behaved inappropriately while no other passengers were nearby. Abhijit allegedly offered her a berth in the AC compartment as a pretext. He continued behaving obscenely and touched her, demanding sexual favors to confirm her seat.
Terrified, the student escaped the compartment and sought help from two co-passengers.
They promptly assisted her in filing a complaint with the Vijayawada Railway Police. After her statement, police registered FIR No. 38/2025. The case cites Sections 74 and 75(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Railway authorities confirmed launching an internal inquiry and suspended the accused TTE while the investigation is still underway. This incident has renewed public concern over women’s safety on trains, especially in the South Central Railway division. It highlights risks persist despite national awareness campaigns and strict laws like the Nirbhaya and Disha Acts.
Public outrage has grown louder on social media, with citizens demanding harsher punishment for the accused. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu warned that sexual harassment against women will face the harshest punishment. He emphasized, “Those who harm women will see their last day.”
As the investigation progresses, the public is closely monitoring railway authorities and law enforcement for swift, decisive action. Authorities must demonstrate that any abuse of power against women will not be tolerated.
