Madcap entertainer DJ Tillu, starring Siddhu Jonnalagadda in the lead role as an eccentric disco jockey who falls for Radhika, emerged as a runaway blockbuster at the box office in 2022. The impact of the success of this comedy caper was so high that the sequel Tillu Square generated a lot of hype and hysteria among trade circles and audiences before its release.
As expected by everyone, Tillu Square went bonkers at the box office on the opening day in all territories. The sequel set the cash registers ringing on Friday and got a thumping start with a terrific opening of 23 Crores gross worldwide. The theatrical share is around 13 Crores. This is quite an unexpected number for a small-budget film because many second-tier actors struggled to surpass the 20 Crore gross opening despite working with experienced directors.
In Naizam, the biggest territory of Tollywood, Tillu Square took a sensational opening with close to 4 Crores share. In the USA, the film is on a rampage mode as it surpassed the coveted 1 Million gross mark by the end of Friday after a phenomenal opening of $ 505K from Thursday premieres. It is likely to get close to $ 2 million by the end of the first weekend. In all other regions, Tillu Square amassed impressive numbers.
The non-stop entertainment coupled with Siddhu’s maverick histrionics and Anupama Parameshwaran’s glamour quotient worked well for the film. Moreover, the fact that there is no competition at the box office helped the collections further. Going by the current trend, Tillu Square is likely to be a huge blockbuster by the end of its full run.
