Tension In Punganur, MP Mithun Reddy Under House Arrest

A tense atmosphere prevailed in Punganur of Chittoor district on Sunday. In the wake of YCP MP P. Mithun Reddy’s visit to Punganur, TDP, BJP and Jana Sena leaders staged a sit-in. protested at Ambedkar Circle. They chanted ‘Mithun Reddy go back’ slogans. The leaders of the alliance warned that they cannot allow him to visit Punganur that was neglected for five years.

As a result, the police, who reached the scene, told the MP not to go on the tour to avoid any untoward incidents. As he refused to oblige and determined to go ahead with his scheduled Punganur tour, police kept him under house arrest at his Tirupati residence. This has created a tense atmosphere.

Earlier, Rajampet MP Mithun Reddy speaking to the media in Tirupati accused that after the election results, TDP leaders are committing physical attacks in Punganur Assembly and Rajampet Parliament constituencies. He expressed concern that they are bringing JCBs and robbing the homes of the poor.

For the first time, he deplored the TDP introducing a culture of factionalism in this area.  “We welcome a political fight during elections, but attacking the homes of the poor is outrageous”, he said.

He wondered why the police are preventing him from visiting his constituency? He said that he will complain to the Lok Sabha speaker about the attitude of the police preventing him from meeting his own constituency people.

Mithun Reddy slams that the TDP government has been bringing a new trend of preventing the opposition from functioning. Stating that as many as 40 per cent people voted for their party in the elections, he wondered whether they will expel people who voted for them from the state?

Alleging that TDP leaders are threatening YSRCP leaders and workers bringing pressure to change the party, he asserted that he will stand by his party workers and leaders and be ready to face consequences whatever may be.

He expressed his anger that ignorant people are spreading rumors stating that he is changing to BJP. Strongly refuting such speculations, he said that people will soon realize the cheating of TDP leaders and return to YCP.
