Former TDP minister Bhuma Akhila Priya was arrested. She was detained by the police near Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s poll campaign tour in Nandyal district on Thursday. Tension mounted at CM Jagan in Erraguntli, when Akhila Priya came to give the petition to the CM and the police stopped her as she did not have permission.
Followers of MLA Gangula Nani attacked her and other TDP activists, when they entered Jagan’s `face to face with farmers’ meeting. As both sides resorted to clashes, police arrested her and others and tried to take to Shirivella Police station. But she refused to board the police vehicle, saying she will come by walking.
Jagan undertook a state-wide bus yatra in the name of `Memanta Siddam’. As part of this, he is touring Nandyala district. YCP organized an open meeting in Nandyala. Akhila Priya went to the YCP meeting and tried to give a petition to CM Jagan for the release of irrigation water.
When Akhila Priya left with her followers, the police stopped her. Saying that crops were drying up in the constituency and that she wanted to represent the chief minister seeking release of water for the farmers. Along with her, a large number of TDP activists also followed her in a big way.
Alarmed by this, the police immediately arrested Akhila Priya and the TDP activist and took them to the police station. After Akhila Priya was taken into custody by the police, there was tension there for a while. The police took pains to pacify both sides.
On this occasion, Akhila Priya said that the CMO did not respond when she tried to seek an appointment with CM YS Jagan. That is why, she said that she has come to give a petition directly to the CM. She asked how the problem of law and order will become if the petition is given.
She accused Allagadda MLA Gangula Brijender Reddy’s brother of harassing the farmers and demanding money for the release of water for cultivation. She alleged that even the MLA also insisted that farmers should bribe his brother for the release of water, but offering some `discount’.
