Malayalam superstar Mohanlal’s upcoming film L2: Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, is set for release on March 27. The film, a sequel to the blockbuster Lucifer, is being released in multiple languages, including Telugu. Ahead of its release, the makers held a press meet in Hyderabad, attended by Mohanlal, Prithviraj Sukumaran, and producer Dil Raju.
Speaking at the event, Mohanlal lauded the Telugu film industry, calling it the best in the country. “Telugu audiences have immense respect for actors. In my 47-year career, I have worked with many Telugu stars, and acting alongside Akkineni Nageswara Rao was a privilege. While my previous Malayalam films were remade in Telugu, L2: Empuraan is getting a direct Telugu release, which is a significant milestone,” he said.
He further revealed that the film was always intended as a trilogy. “This is not just a sequel; when we conceptualized this story, we planned it as a three-part narrative. We have worked tirelessly on this film for two years, and I am looking forward to celebrating its success,” he added.
Producer Dil Raju, who is distributing the Telugu version, expressed confidence in the film’s scale and impact. “Directors like Rajamouli, Prashanth Neel, and Sukumar have elevated Indian cinema to a global level, and now Prithviraj joins that league. Lucifer was a phenomenal success, and L2: Empuraan is even more ambitious. The trailer showcases breathtaking visuals, and Mohanlal’s screen presence is extraordinary,” he stated.
Director Prithviraj Sukumaran extended his gratitude to Dil Raju for backing the Telugu release. “When I narrated the story, he immediately agreed. We put in extra effort for the Telugu version. In 2019, we could not position Lucifer as a pan-India release, but this time, we are taking L2: Empuraan worldwide. The response to ticket bookings has been overwhelming, and given the love we are receiving, we may collaborate with Dil Raju for the third part as well,” he said.
The film is set for a grand release across multiple languages, with Sri Venkateswara Creations handling its distribution in the Telugu states.
