Telangana records Initial Case Under New National Criminal Laws

Telangana has recorded its first case under India’s new criminal laws, which came into effect nationwide from midnight on Sunday. The initial case under these laws was recorded in Madhya Pradesh at 12:20 AM, followed by Telangana at the Charminar police station.

In Telangana, the police filed a case against a two-wheeler rider traveling without a number plate. The FIR was lodged digitally under Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act, in line with the new regulations.

The 17th Lok Sabha approved the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita (BNS), Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Samhita (BNSS), and The Bharatiya Sanstha Adhiniyam (BSA) to replace the IPC and CrPC from the British era. These new laws, effective from July 1 at midnight, introduce modern methods such as zero FIR, online complaint registration without visiting a police station, and the issuance of summons through electronic media like SMS.
