Telangana Government Steps In to Resolve Wage Dispute Halting Telugu Film Productions

The ongoing wage dispute between workers and producers in the Telugu film industry has intensified, causing a complete halt in film shootings. The Telangana government has taken the initiative to mediate and resolve the crisis.

Telangana’s Minister for Cinematography, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, held discussions with film producer representatives to address the issue. The Telugu Film Industry Employees Federation (TFIEF) has been demanding a 30 percent wage hike, leading to a strike that stalled productions in recent days.

In Hyderabad, Telangana Film Development Corporation Chairman Dil Raju, along with producers Gemini Kiran and Supriya, and State Home Secretary Ravi Gupta, met with the minister. They presented the challenges faced by the industry and outlined factors contributing to the strike.

Minister Komatireddy acknowledged the increased cost of living affecting workers but stressed the importance of reaching a balanced and sustainable solution through negotiations.

While the federation insists on a 30 percent wage increase to cope with rising expenses, producers argue that such an increase would disproportionately impact small and medium-budget films. They also cited declining theater attendance and weakening OTT revenues as key concerns.

Both parties continue negotiations, and industry stakeholders remain optimistic about a timely resolution to end the strike and resume normal film production activities.
