There is strong opposition to the Congress government in rural areas across Telangana. It has been found that there is opposition especially from farmers, youth and women. It is learnt that a recent survey conducted by the Congress with the intention of going to the local body elections has revealed that the Congress will be badly affected if local elections are held now. Over 60 percent of the rural voters have reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the Congress government.
This opposition is coming from the rural people due to reasons like urea shortage, Indiramma Houses issue, pending wages of petty workers, development deficiencies, six guarantees and violation of 420 promises. As a result, the Congress leaders are said to be afraid that this issue will take a crucial turn in the state politics.
The ministers who conducted field observations have also reportedly advised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy not to fight the local elections now and to postpone them. Analysts are also saying that the Congress government has been postponing the local elections due to fear of defeat only.
On the surface, it seems that efforts are being made to prevent the elections from being held, while claiming to be committed to 42 percent reservation for BCs. The State Election Commission has already released the final list of ward-wise voters of Gram Panchayats and the list of polling stations on the second day of this month.
It has also released the final lists of polling stations and voters for MPTC and ZPTC seats. Ballot boxes have been brought from Maharashtra and Gujarat so that they can be held simultaneously instead of in phases. A total of 1,31,883 ballot boxes have been made ready in the state. On the one hand, the State Election Commission has made all arrangements to complete the local elections within a month.
Whenever the Congress government gives the green signal for the local fight, it is ready to conclude the election process. However, observers are of the opinion that the Revanth government is postponing the local elections out of fear of defeat. They say that they are avoiding the issue of 42% reservation for BCs.
