Telangana cabinet To Focus on Local Body polls, 42% BC Reservations

The crucial Telangana cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will mainly focus on conduct of local body elections in the state and also issues related to the 42 percent BC reservation. The ordinance sent to the Governor amending Section 285(A) of the Telangana Panchayat Raj Act-2018 to increase BC reservations is in the Raj Bhavan. No decision has been taken on the BC bills passed in the assembly and sent to the center.

On the other hand, the deadline given by the High Court for finalizing the reservations has expired. The funds due from the center have stopped after more than a year and a half of local elections. Now the cabinet has to discuss how to move forward in the context of all this.

With the delay in the reservation issue there are expectations that a key decision may be taken regarding the conduct of the elections. The independent expert committee formed by the state government to study the caste census recently submitted a report to the government.

The reports are likely to be discussed in the cabinet meeting and a decision is likely to be taken on the basis of the details revealed in this study and the ranks given by caste. The cabinet is likely to approve some posts in several government departments.

The BJP and BRS are criticizing the government for the current shortage of urea in the state and for not supplying it adequately. The state government is saying that the NDA government at the center has not provided urea as required.

In this context, the cabinet has to review on how much urea does the state actually need in the Kharif and Yasangi seasons? How much has the center allocated for the current Kharif? How much has it supplied so far? It also intended to decide on what measures should be taken regarding urea reserves.

The revised estimates of irrigation projects and Sitarama projects in the state will also be discussed. It is learned that the PC Ghosh Committee, which was formed to investigate the Kaleshwaram project, is likely to submit a report to the government before the cabinet meeting. The cabinet is likely to focus its attention on this report.
