Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad has finally initiated an inquiry into the disqualification of defected MLAs, which has led to intense political uproar in the state. The matter has once again heated up politically with the Speaker focused on the disqualification petitions filed against six MLAs who joined the Congress party from BRS, after the Supreme Court directed him to examine those petitions within three months.
As part of this inquiry, he issued fresh notices to the MLAs who changed parties as well as the BRS leaders who complained. In these notices, he asked them to submit more details regarding the party change. Among those who received notices from the Speaker are the MLAs who joined the Congress after winning on the BRS ticket.
These include Jagityal MLA Sanjay, Banswada MLA Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Bhadrachalam MLA Tellam Venkat Rao, Gadwal MLA Bandla Krishnamohan Reddy, Chevella MLA Kale Yadayya, and Patancheru MLA Gudem Mahipal Reddy. These six MLAs have already submitted their replies to the notices sent by the Speaker earlier.
Moreover, on behalf of the BRS party, MLAs Jagadish Reddy, KP Vivekananda and Chinta Prabhakar submitted rejoinders (explanations for each explanation) to Assembly Joint Secretary Upender Reddy last Monday. On this occasion, BRS leaders were highly critical. They commented that the MLAs who joined the Congress cannot escape the law and that they have become thieves in the eyes of the people.
“Revanth Reddy was caught with packages in the cash-for-vote case and escaped, they think we can’t escape. Even if we escape here, we won’t be able to escape before the court. By-elections are sure to come in their constituencies. They will have no political future and the people will judge,” BRS leaders warned.
It may be recalled that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has reportedly assured defected MLAs that he would take care to protect them from the danger of disqualification, so that they may not face by-elections.
However, former ministers Danam Nagender, Kadiyam Srihari are said to be getting ready to resign as MLAs, fearing that it may be difficult for them to escape from the provisions of disqualification. However, now everyone is looking towards Speaker Gaddam Prasad speculating on his possible moves in this regard.
