Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Monday introduced a resolution in the Assembly recommending that the Centre confer the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, on former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who recently passed away due to age-related ailments. The resolution garnered unanimous support from the opposition party, BRS.
During a special session convened to pay homage to Dr. Manmohan Singh, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy praised his monumental contributions to the nation. Revanth highlighted Singh’s pivotal role in steering India’s economic reforms during his tenure as Finance Minister between 1991 and 1996, which laid the foundation for the country’s economic growth.
Revanth also recalled Singh’s distinguished service as Prime Minister for two terms, RBI Governor, and Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, describing him as the architect of India’s economic liberalization and a statesman of unparalleled vision.
Leader of the Opposition and former minister KTR declared the BRS’s support for the resolution, stating that Dr. Manmohan Singh was fully deserving of the Bharat Ratna for his exemplary contributions to India’s progress.
