TDP floor leader Peela Srinivasa Rao is likely to be next Mayor of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation. After the YSRCP Mayor G. Hari Venkata Kumari was removed with a no-confidence motion, the TDP high-command has reportedly selected him for this post.
Immediately after the no-confidence motion against the mayor was passed on Saturday, MPs Sri Bharat, CM Ramesh, MLAs Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Velagapudi, Konatala Ramakrishna, Ganababu, Palla Srinivasa Rao and others were seen congratulating him. Even outside the office, activists and leaders lifted him on their shoulders.
With this, it is reported that he will be elected as the mayor. There are two deputy mayor posts in the GVMC. No-confidence motion will be passed against Deputy Mayor Jiyyani Sridhar on the 26th of this month and another deputy mayor Katumuri Satish after July. There are a lot of hopefuls from the coalition corporators for the respective posts.
From TDP, Gandham Srinivasa Rao, Molli Hemalatha, and Golagani Mangaveni are hoping for the post of deputy mayor. From Jana Sena, the names of Peethala Murth Yadav and Dalli Govind Reddy are being heard. Along with them, three other corporators who recently joined Jana Sena are also hoping.
It is said that there is a possibility of Gajuwaka Corporator Palla Srinivasa Rao getting the floor leader post. However, it has become interesting to see who will get the deputy mayor post that will be vacant after 26.
Meanwhile, former Mayor Golagani Hari Venkata Kumari said that having the fortune of serving the people of the city for four years, the post of mayor has given satisfaction. She said that she has done her best to create the necessary infrastructure for the people of Visakhapatnam.
She thanked the people of the city, corporators, and public representatives who have cooperated in this. She said that the development during her tenure will remain forever. She recalled that the city has achieved cleanliness ranks at the national level.
Former minister and YSRCP Northern regional coordinator Kurasala Kannababu criticized the coalition government for grabbing the GVMC mayor’s seat through obstacles. He alleged that if they had given a Yadava woman a chance as mayor, the coalition government would have removed her through conspiracies and machinations.
Former minister and YSRCP district president Gudivada Amarnath said that the 27 corporators who violated the whip would definitely lose their membership. He said that they would approach the court against them. It was alleged that the alliance leaders tried to kidnap a female corporator while organizing a camp at a hotel in Kochi, Kerala, with the intention of providing protection to YSRCP corporators.
