After TDP registered an unprecedented victory in the assembly polls, most of the YCP leaders, particularly Mayor of Municipal Corporations and chiefs of Zilla Parishads, are worried about their political future. As the YCP is confined to 11 MLA seats and its prospects in near future are said to be bleak, they are said to be looking for avenues to join TDP.
Already Nellore city Mayor resigned to her post and some more Mayors are also said to be on her day. However, TDP leaders are said to be in confusion and unable to take a decision immediately on the issue of admitting them into their party and facilitating them to continue in the present positions.
Some TDP leaders are exploring legal options available to unseat YCP leaders from local bodies, paving the way for conducting fresh elections. Most Mayors are women and in their name their husbands practically hold the key involved in severe corrupt and irregular practices.
Till now TDP leaders themselves accused YCP Mayors and Zilla Parishad chiefs of their corrupt practices and irregular administration. Many TDP leaders are fearing that admitting such YCP leaders into the party will demoralize TDP cadres and covering corrupt YCP functionaries may send a wrong signal.
Three years ago, there were many allegations of unanimity in local body elections held in AP. At that time, the TDP had accused the YCP of committing irregularities in order to get seats in Municipal Corporations, Municipalities and Zilla Parishads across the state.
In this regard there was a clash between the State Election Commission and the YCP government in the state. TDP accused they were denied filing nominations by YCP goons and elections were conducted by fraud.
YS Jaganmohan Reddy government had crossed swords with State Election Commission Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar regarding postponing the elections. After that various developments took place. Local body elections were held in AP while Covid was in its second phase.
Now, local TDP leaders are said to be not favouring to admit into the party those elected in such `fraud polls’. TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu has to take a decision on this critical issue.
