Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced that the main road in Kamdar Nagar, Nungambakkam, in Chennai will be renamed as “SP Balasubrahmanyam Road” in an honor of legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam.
SP Balasubrahmanyam, renowned as SPB, was born on June 4, 1946, in Konetammapeta, Andhra Pradesh. He made his singing debut in 1966 with the Telugu film ‘Sri Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna’, and with his incredible vocal talent, he recorded more than 40,000 songs across 16 different Indian languages, earning him a Guinness World Record for the highest number of songs recorded by any singer. For his remarkable contribution to music, SPB was honored with prestigious awards like Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan by the Government of India. Lasting an impression forever in hearts, he passed away on September 25, 2020, after battling COVID-19 and other health issues.
Remembering the legendary singer SP Balasubrahmanyam on his 4th death anniversary, Tamil Nadu CM renamed the street where SPB lived to SP Balasubrahmanyam Street. On Wednesday, September 25, 2024, they announced this news through a press note issued by the office of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
SP Balasubrahmanyam’s son, renowned playback singer SP Charan, expressed his gratitude to the Tamil Nadu government for bestowing this esteemed recognition upon him.
