The Supreme Court on Tuesday cleared the release of Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan and directed by Mani Ratnam, in Karnataka. The film had earlier faced a ban in the state, prompting Haasan to move the apex court. The bench observed that a film cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) cannot be stopped from release and instructed the Karnataka government to ensure its smooth theatrical run.
Thug Life, which also features actor Silambarasan (Simbu) in a prominent role, has generated significant buzz due to its powerful ensemble and high production value. Following the court’s directive, the film’s team is now preparing for its release in Karnataka. Despite earlier controversies, the makers are optimistic about its reception at the box office.
