The strike siren has sounded in Telangana RTC. As the Revanth Reddy government has not responded to their demands, the RTC trade unions have decided to go on an indefinite strike from May 7th. With this, RTC buses will be closed across Telangana state from midnight on May 6th. All buses will be confined to depots.
RTC JAC Chairman Edura Venkanna announced that the workers are going to go on strike from May 7th. He said that they are ready for the RTC strike in the spirit of May Day. He demanded that the government should respond at least now and take steps to resolve their problems. He advised the government to respond immediately to their fair demands.
The RTC workers’ JAC met at the AITUC office in Narayanguda on Tuesday. On this occasion, the RTC Workers’ JAC released a wall poster related to the strike. Later, RTC JAC Chairman Edura Venkanna said that before the strike, on May 5, RTC workers will organize a labor march. He said that all the workers will participate in this march in RTC uniform from RTC Kalyana Mandapam to Bus Bhavan in support of this strike.
The trade unions are demanding that the RTC preservation and merger process be completed. They want the RTC management to purchase and run the electric buses that are the source of privatization. They are demanding the Revanth Reddy government to pay the 2021 wage revision. Also, pay the pending dues.
They are demanding that the RTC workers be recognized as employees on an equal footing with government employees and the RTC merger process be undertaken in the government. Venkanna said that 16,000 people have retired in the RTC organization. He demanded that those vacancies be filled immediately.
Similarly, he demanded that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy should express his stance on the problems prevailing in the RTC. The RTC workers have prepared for the strike after receiving no response from the company management, government and the Labor Commissioner on the strike notice given on January 27 to resolve the problems of the workers.
