In a major breakthrough in the ongoing investigation of Telangana phone tapping, PCC Chief Y.S. Sharmila — sister of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy — has emerged as one of the persons whose phones were allegedly tapped during the earlier BRS rule, according to reports.
As reported by sources near the Special Investigation Team (SIT), Sharmila’s phone was tracked regularly, and exhaustive reports of her calls and contacts were reportedly being given to an individual called in code.
This disclosure has introduced an additional layer of mystery to a case already high-profile. Interestingly, Sharmila had previously complained that her telephone was tapped. Her complaints were then brushed off as political. In light of the SIT probe now confirming several of her suspicions, the previous warnings are now being reinterpreted.
Sharmila’s strained relationship with her brother over alleged family property disputes, followed by her political foray into Telangana through the YSRTP and eventual merger with the Congress party, now seem to be key points in understanding why she may have been targeted.
As the probe intensifies, the SIT has begun recording statements from individuals who believe they were victims of unlawful surveillance. Telangana PCC working president Mahesh Kumar Goud has already provided his testimony. With Sharmila’s name now in the spotlight, it is expected that she too may be asked to give a formal statement in the coming days.
The phone tapping scandal keeps sending shockwaves in the political circle, seriously questioning privacy infringements and political vendettas. With more names being added to the list, everyone’s eyes are on the SIT’s next step.
