SIT Report Leads To New Cases On Police, Arrest Of Politicians

DGP Harish Kumar Gupta revealed that special teams are being formed to arrest the accused in connection with the violent incidents during the election. Following the initial report submitted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted on the order of the Election Commission of India (ECI), he admitted that several errors were found in the investigation.

SIT Chief Vineet Brijlal submitted a 150 pages report to DGP Harish Kumar Gupta. Based on this report, sources said that cases will be registered against several erred police officials and also some politicians are likely to be arrested.

It seems that some recommendations have been made on the security measures to be taken during the counting of votes on June 4. The investigating officers were directed to file a memo in the courts to add additional sections to the already registered cases.

The SIT chief said that CCTV footage and video footage should be collected as digital evidence. He said that the DGP has examined the report given by them and expressed satisfaction. He also said that the DGP has ordered the district SPs, Anantapur DIG and Guntur Range IG to look into this report and take appropriate follow-up action.

The SIT concluded that 33 incidents were reported in Palnadu, Tirupati and Anantapur districts. The SIT report revealed that out of 1370 accused in these cases,  the SIT report said that only 124 accused have been arrested so far. It said that 41 A notices were served to 94 people.

The SIT officials advised the police to arrest the rest of the accused as well. A total of 22 cases have been reported in Palnadu district, 10 in Narasaraopet, 8 in Macharla and 4 in Gurjazala. Of the total 581 accused involved, 274 have been identified. The SIT report concluded that only 19 of them were arrested.

Police registered a total of four cases in Tirupati, 2 each in Chandragiri and 2 in Tirupati. 61 accused have been identified in these cases. Only 14 of them were arrested. 47 accused have to be arrested.

A total of seven cases have been reported in Tadipatri in Anantapur district. Of the 728 accused involved in the seven incidents, 396 have been identified by the police so far. Only 91 people were arrested. The SIT report clarified that 634 accused have not been arrested yet. If you look at the SIT report, it will be clear how much negligence the police have in investigating the cases and arresting the accused.
