The Special Investigation Team (SIT) concluded that YCP mobs wreaked havoc on the day of the general elections in the state and thereafter. It concluded that TDP candidates and sympathizers were attacked and attempted murder.
The SIT teams led by IG Vineet Brizilal, who entered the field on the orders of the Election Commission of India (ECI) to find out the facts about the incidents of violence in Palnadu, Anantapur and Tirupati districts, conducted a thorough investigation and submitted a 157-page report to DGP Harish Kumar Gupta.
In that report, YCP MLA Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy has described the manner in which he entered the police station from the way he stormed into the polling booth and vandalized the EVMs. The SIT revealed that 35 cases of election violence, 2 cases of destruction of EVMs have been registered and statements of 447 eyewitnesses have been recorded.
Additional sections have been added in 32 FIRs, it said. It said that in 25 cases webcasting footage was taken and sent to the forensic science lab, and the report was attached to the charge sheets and filed in the court.
It said that there are more than 1,450 accused, 718 have been arrested so far and 41A notices have been issued to the rest. It said that candidates who have committed illegal violence and incited followers while contesting elections are being set up with the data provided by mobile networks through CDRs and tower dumps.
It said that all the pieces, photos and videos of the destroyed EVMs have been collected. It has been revealed that a total of 43 complaints have been received by the SIT headquarters and district SIT officials, 21 from TDP, 19 from YCP, 1 from BJP and 2 from others.
