Putting halt to speculations for the last few days, the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Y S Sharmila said on Thursday that she was ready to contest the elections from any constituency in the state as per the instructions of the Congress high command.
Adding fuel to speculations that she is likely to contest against her cousin brother and sitting YSRCP MP YS Avinash Reddy, who is close to her brother and chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, she held a meeting with the YSR district Congress leaders at Andhra Ratna Bhavan in Vijayawada.
Later, interacting with the media, she said all Congress leaders should be prepared to contest elections as per the instructions of the party. Incidentally, YSR district Congress leaders unanimously asked Sharmila to contest from Kadapa Lok Sabha seat.
Senior leader Dr N. Tulsireddy said that if she contest from Kadapa Lok Sabha, Sharmila will go to the people as the true successor of YS Rajasekhar Reddy. Sharmila revealed that she will take the sentiments of the leaders to the attention of the leadership.
It may be regarded that Avinash Reddy is the `prime accused’ in the murder of her uncle YS Vivekananda Reddy. However, the response from AICC to put her in Kadapa is yet to be revealed.
Sharmila said the party has received over 1,500 applications from the aspirants to contest the polls and the Central party leadership will decide the candidates. She said so far, the party had not announced names of contesting candidates.
She asked government advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy to get prepared for the defeat of YSRCP.
