Sharmila Demands Apology from Bharathi and Jagan Over Amaravati Remarks

AP PCC chief Y.S. Sharmila strongly condemned the derogatory remarks made against Amaravati, calling them deeply offensive and an insult to women and the people of Andhra Pradesh. Speaking at a press meet in Tirupati, Sharmila demanded a public apology from Sakshi Media head Bharathi Reddy and Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

“Amaravati is the dreams and future of Andhra people. To use such shameful words for it is not only insensitive, but it’s an attack on public dignity itself,” Sharmila said. “It is not about politics—it is about respect. Apologizing for making that comment is not a weakness, it’s something to be done.”

She also added that Congress party condemns the use of such indecent words in strongest words, irrespective of whomsoever used them. “A decade’s wait for a permanent capital and Andhra Pradesh deserves to hear responsible conversation, not such derogatory words,” Sharmila said, being concerned about the timing and content of the words.

Sharmila didn’t mince words when addressing the media organization involved. She criticized Sakshi Media House for airing the controversial comment and urged its head, Bharathi Reddy, to issue an unconditional apology. “Running a media house comes with responsibility. It’s time to step up and correct this wrong,” she added.

Sharmila questioned his silence on the matter. “Why is Jagan Mohan Reddy quiet? When women across the state are deeply hurt, the least he can do is offer a sincere apology. His silence raises serious questions.”

Sharmila concluded by saying that such shameful remarks will not shake Amaravati’s status as the capital, but the emotional damage caused must be acknowledged and addressed. She emphasized that safeguarding women’s dignity and public sentiment should be a top priority for any responsible government.
