Former Telangana Chief Minister and BRS chief Kalvakuntla Chandrasekhar Rao has faced a setback in the High Court. The High Court dismissed his petition seeking dissolution of the Electricity Commission. The High Court upheld the government’s arguments in this regard.
It is known that the current Telangana government has set up the Justice L Narasimha Reddy Commission to investigate the allegations of irregularities in the power purchase agreement from Chhattisgarh and the establishment of thermal power stations when KCR was the Chief Minister.
A bench of Chief Justice Alok Aaradhe and Justice J Anilkumar, which heard the petition last Friday, reserved its verdict after hearing the arguments of both sides. The bench issued the verdict on Monday dismissing KCR’s petition.
Senior lawyer Aditya Sondhi, who appeared on behalf of KCR, alleged that the commission was set up at the behest of a political party. He said that there was no illegality in electricity purchases. The commission was set up against the principles of natural justice.
Advocate General Sudarshan Reddy countered this on behalf of the government. He said that the investigation is going on according to a methodology and Transco Genco officials have also been questioned. However, the lawyer on behalf of KCR, who had objections on the manner of setting up the commission, alleged that they were not taken into consideration.
He said that a notice was issued to his client on April 14 and asked him to attend the hearing. He said that due to the campaigning of the Lok Sabha elections, the deadline was sought and the commission postponed the inquiry.
In the meantime, he alleged that Justice L. Narasimha Reddy held a media conference on June 11 with scant information. The AG responded to this and said that the Chairman of the Electricity Commission did not act in a one-sided manner. It was argued that KCR’s petition does not deserve to be heard.
