SC Demands CBI, ED Updates on Jagan’s Assets Case

A major update has come to the high-profile case concerning illegal assets of former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, as the Deputy Speaker of Andhra Pradesh, Raghurama Krishnam Raju, approached the court again, raising concerns about how the trial is getting held up.

Accordingly, the Supreme Court has ordered the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation to file a comprehensive status report on the case within two weeks with updates on its progress.

Raghurama Krishnam Raju has also sought the court to transfer the trial to another state as the case is experiencing inordinate delay in the proceedings. The Supreme Court bench, led by Justice Abhay S. Oka, expressed concern over the protracted delays and sought clarity on why the case was not progressing. Both the prosecution and defense teams informed the court that the Telangana High Court had already scheduled daily hearings for the case, but the bench questioned whether any roadblocks might arise during these hearings.

Legal experts attribute the delay to several factors, such as discharge petitions, adjournments, and pending hearings in higher courts. Considering this, the Supreme Court has directed the authorities to prepare a comprehensive list of all pending cases in tabular form. The court will decide further course of action after perusing the affidavit submitted. Further, the court asked for case details from the Telangana High Court and the trial courts along with an update on the pendency of cases. Next hearing in this case is December 13.
