Controversial filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, who landed in legal entangle for his offensive posts on social media in the past, received a big relief in the form of anticipatory bail from the Andhra Pradesh High Court today morning. Varma has been facing three cases for posting derogatory pictures and posters on the then Opposition leader and present Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, his son and IT Minister Nara Lokesh and current Deputy Chief Minister and Janasena supremo Pawan Kalyan.
Hearing Varma’s petition to seek protection from arrest in three cases, the High Court of AP pronounced its judgement just a while ago. The Court granted anticipatory bail to RGV and directed him to cooperate with the police to enquire into the cases. It also directed him to attend before the enquiry whenever the police issues him summons in these cases.
Three different cases were registered against RGV for his disgusting posts on several occasions in the last five years when YSR Congress party was in power. He was summoned to attend for enquiry in the second week of November. However, Varma didn’t attend the enquiries fearing arrest and went into exile. He switched off his mobile and sought legal protection in the High Court through his lawyer.
The controversy stems from a social media post made nearly a year ago, where RGV shared morphed photographs of Chandrababu Naidu, Pawan Kalyan, and their family members in an inappropriate manner.
RGV denied the charges and questioned the intent of anonymous persons filing complaints for his posts instead of those involved in them. The filmmaker further argued that the complaints lack substantial merit and appear to be an attempt to persecute him for his outspoken nature.
