Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was forced to postpone his plans to unveil a new `official emblem’ for Telangana state on June 2nd, the 10th anniversary of the state formation day following severe dissent about government’s efforts.
The government took a step back after large-scale protests against the proposed removal of the iconic Kakatiya Kalathoranam and Charminar, existed presently. For this purpose, CM Revanth Reddy reviewed several designs made by artist Rudra Rajesham.
After the formation of Telangana state, the then KCR government unveiled a new logo. It includes Kakatiya Kalathoranam and Charminar. Recently the Congress government has decided to change the logo.
CM Revanth Reddy was expected to finalise the new emblem on Thursday evening at a meeting with many intellectuals and leaders of political parties. But suddenly the government has postponed the move and said there will not be unveiling of new emblem on June 2, but only a State Song will be unveiled.
Revanth Reddy said in the meeting that there is no hurry in finalising new emblem and a final decision will be taken only after discussing with all, if needed even in the assembly.
On the other hand, the BRS party has opposed proposed changes in the emblem and resorting to protests all over the state. The leaders of that party are criticizing that the Congress government is acting in a conspiratorial manner.
BRS Working President KT Rama Rao strongly protested against removal of historic symbols of Telangana… Kakateeya Kalathoranam and Charminar and described it as insulting the people of Telangana.
He led a protest at Charminar against this government’s move. KTR questioned how the government can remove Kakateeya Kalathoranam, which is a symbol of the state’s glory.
Sensing that the move will hurt the sentiments of Telangana people, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy seems to be went back on his decision. The government said that as they have received upto 200 suggestions on the new emblem, they need some time to examine them before taking a decision. It said they have decided to continue their consultations in this regard.
