Ever since Revanth Reddy dethroned KCR in the 2023 December elections, Bharatiya Rastra Samithi MLA and former minister Harish Rao has been aggressively targeting the Congress party in Telangana over various issues relating to farmers, power, water and paddy procurement. He threw numerous challenges to Revanth Reddy in the last six months and also vowed to resign from his MLA post if the Congress government implements the farm loan waiver promise made in the manifesto.
As Revanth Reddy’s government initiated the roll out of this historic poll promise on Thursday with the plan to complete the entire process in the next two weeks, Harish Rao’s resignation challenge became the talking point in political circles all over the state. While the Congress party supporters spread Harish Rao’s past videos in which he asserted to resign from his post if the scheme is implemented and demanded him keep his promise, the BRS party followers launched a counter attack by referring to Revanth’s old videos in which he challenged the government on various issues and didn’t stick to his words.
The war of words between Revanth and Harish Rao reached a new high on Thursday as both of them traded charges over the ‘Resignation’ challenge. The Chief Minister took a sly dig on Harish Rao by criticising indirectly that those who challenged to resign will now run away as the farm loan waiver promise is fulfilled in the state. Revanth strongly asserted that the Congress party and the Gandhi family will never go back on any poll promise in history.
Reacting on Revanth Reddy’s comments, Harish Rao came up with a sharp riposte in the form of press release later in the day. He hit back at Revanth by referring to the former’s challenges in the past when he didn’t keep his word on resignation after losing in Kondangal in the previous election. He also took potshots at the CM for not resigning as MLA when Telangana movement was at its peak before bifurcation.
Harish Rao further lashed out at Revanth by claiming that he has the history of sacrificing his posts for the sake of Telangana and its people. He said he will always stand by the welfare of farmers and marginalized sections in the society.
Harish again threw a challenge at Revanth Reddy that he would definitely resign from MLA post if his government fulfills all its election promises by August 15th including the 2 lacs loan waiver to all farmers in the state.
