The Andhra Pradesh government has appointed retired IPS Officer A R Anuradha, who is known for her efficiency and dynamism in discharging her duties as the Chairperson of Andhra Pradesh State Public Service Commission (APPSC). To this extent, the Chief Secretary of the State Government Neerabh Kumar Prasad has issued orders on Wednesday.
In the past, she held the responsibilities of Intelligence Chief and also Home Secretary. She is the only one women IPS officer, who headed the intelligence department in Telugu states. She held this position during the previous TDP government. She had retired last year as Director General of Vigilance and Enforcement Department.
Anuradha started his career as IPS in 1987 and retired from her service in 2023. AR Anuradha’s husband Nimmagadda Surendrababu, who belongs to the 1987 batch, is also an IPS officer. As Vijayawada Police Commissioner and some other key positions, he also earned fame as a dynamic officer.
AP Government favored Anuradha’s appointment after examining several names regarding the assignment of APPSC responsibilities. After the coalition government came to power in AP, APPSC Chairman Gautam Sawang resigned from his post on July 4.
The TDP alleged that there were large-scale irregularities in the conduct of the APPSC group examinations during the YCP regime. The TDP has repeatedly alleged that they have committed irregularities in the evaluation of Group 1 exams and that they have done the evaluation three times once to favor those they want.
Soon after the change of government, Sawang resigned from the APPSC duties even though he had another year’s tenure. APPSC has been without a chairman for the last three months after the new government was formed in the state.
As stalemate continues in the APPSC, new notifications are not moving forward. Examinations related to many notifications already announced have been stopped. Some exam dates have not been announced. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has been intending to activate APPSC so that it can take up a speedy recruitment process.
