Rayalaseema region has retained its dominance over leadership in Andhra Pradesh unit of CPI. Party senior leader from Kadapa district Gujjula Eswaraiah declared as unanimously elected as state CPI secretary, in the place of K Ramakrishna, hails from Anantapur district.
Now, Ramakrishna became national secretary of the place, earlier held by Dr K Narayana, who also hails from Chittoor district. Incidentally Ramakrishna succeeded Dr Narayana in taking up state CPI leadership. This time, Muppala Nageswara Rao from Guntur district gave a tough fight to become state secretary, as he is working as state joint secretary.
As a result, the party was unable to decide on CPI leadership during its state conference held in Ongole during August. Now, CPI national general secretary D. Raja, who dealt with this issue, finally declared that Eswaraiah will be state secretary. Ramakrishna was elected as the national secretary at the national conference held in Chandigarh.
Eswaraiah’s election as the state secretary was declared by D Raja at the state-level meeting held in Vijayawada on Tuesday. A new state committee was also formed with 102 members. Out of which 33 were elected as state secretariat members at that time.
As the party session at Ongole witnessed strong differences over electing new state secretary after both Eswaraiah and Nageswara Rao competed for this position, the top leadership postponed the election and announced that the state secretary would be elected after the Chandigarh national conference.
As promised, Eswaraiah was elected as the state secretary after reaching a consensus in the party. In the state council meeting held under the chairmanship of CPI leader P. Durga Bhavani, Ramakrishna proposed Eswaraiah’s name and party leader Muppalla Nageswara Rao seconded it.
Eswaraiah, who hails from Kadapa district, has been playing an active role in the CPI since his student days.
Meanwhile, national leaders hoped that the state party would become stronger and continue strong mass movements under Eswaraiah’s leadership. They said that the future movement activities would be announced in the state meeting to be held on November 2 and 3.
