Rashmika Mandanna on ‘National Crush’ Tag: “I Feel Like I’ve Moved Beyond It”

Rashmika Mandanna, widely recognized as the ‘National Crush,’ shared her thoughts on the tag in a recent interview. She expressed gratitude for the overwhelming love from audiences across all age groups and stated that she now feels more connected to them beyond just the title.

“The ‘National Crush’ tag started in 2016 when my debut film Kirik Party was released. Even before that, I was known as the ‘college crush’ during my student days. Later, I became the ‘Karnataka Crush,’ and after entering films, I was labeled the ‘National Crush.’ But now, when people tell me, ‘You are in everyone’s hearts,’ it feels like I have moved past that phase. I truly feel like I have become a part of my audience’s lives,” Rashmika said.

Rashmika is currently engaged in promotions for Chhava, a historical drama based on the life of Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Directed by Laxman Utekar, the film features Vicky Kaushal as Sambhaji Maharaj, while Rashmika plays the role of his wife, Yesubai. The film is scheduled for release on February 14.

Speaking about her role, Rashmika said, “Portraying Yesubai was an unforgettable experience. When I was first offered the role, I was surprised. As someone from the South, I never imagined I would get the opportunity to play a Maharashtrian queen. This film holds a special place in my career. I am grateful to Laxman sir for entrusting me with this role. Honestly, after playing such a significant character, I feel like I could even bid farewell to acting (laughs). I dedicated months to learning the language and preparing for the role.”

Apart from Chhava, Rashmika has a packed schedule with several upcoming projects, including Kubera, Sikandar, Thama, The Girlfriend, and Rainbow, all in various stages of production.
