Editor Shameer, who initially worked on director Shankar’s action drama Game Changer starring Ram Charan, recently revealed that the film’s original cut was approximately seven and a half hours long. During his editing phase, he trimmed it down to about three hours before stepping away from the project due to other commitments.
In a recent interview, Shameer stated, “I worked as the editor for Game Changer for some time. When I was editing, the film was around seven and a half hours long. I reduced it to three hours. However, three years later, I had to leave the project because of other commitments. Unfortunately, this did not turn out to be a very satisfying experience for me.” His comments have sparked considerable discussion online, with many expressing surprise at the film’s initial length.
Game Changer, which features Ram Charan in a dual role and Kiara Advani as the female lead, was released in January with a runtime of 2 hours and 45 minutes. The film received mixed reviews from audiences and critics alike. Addressing these reactions, director Shankar acknowledged the compromises made on the final cut: “I am not satisfied with the output of Game Changer. My original vision was for a five-hour film, but due to time constraints, several scenes had to be cut, which affected the storytelling.”
Shameer is a seasoned editor known for his work on several Malayalam films, including Charlie, Monster, A.R.M., Marco, and Rekha Chitra. Following his exit, Antony Ruben took over editing duties on Game Changer.
