Congress supreme leader Rahul Gandhi has showered praise on the Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, saying that the caste census in Telangana was conducted in an inspiring manner. On Thursday, CM Revanth Reddy gave a keynote presentation on the caste census survey in Telangana at the new AICC office Indira Bhavan in New Delhi.
Later, Rahul Gandhi made it clear that by conducting the caste census survey in Telangana, they were able to put pressure on the central government to conduct it at the national level as well. He explained that this caste census was conducted at the field level by going door to door with 55 questions. He said that conducting a successful caste census is not that easy.
He appreciated that Congress party leaders including Revanth excelled beyond expectations. Rahul described this as a milestone for social justice in the country. On this occasion, Rahul Gandhi made it clear that there is a need to conduct a caste census across the country.
‘‘Sitting in office rooms and conducting caste census will not yield good results. About 56 questions were asked in the Telangana caste census. It stands as a guide for the caste census conducted in the country. We can do anything only if we have the right data in hand. Now Telangana has the right data in hand”, he said.
“The data is now ready up to the street level. No other state in India has data at the level of Telangana. Telangana has data that shows who owns money and land. There is a need to lift the 50 percent limit on reservations”, he added. He accused that the BJP government will not conduct the caste census properly as it does not want to reveal the real picture of the country.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy held a special meeting with Congress Party MPs and explained the BC caste census process conducted in the state through a powerpoint presentation. He said that the BC caste census survey has been conducted in Telangana after almost a hundred years. He demanded that the Center should also consider the results of the Telangana caste census in the upcoming nationwide census.
Along with this, he urged the Congress MPs to get the Centre to approve the Telangana BC reservations Bill and take this issue up as a strong argument in Parliament.
He said that an action plan has already been prepared to include all the opposition parties in this movement and give it more clout. CM Revanth clarified that this will serve as a guideline for the realization of BC rights not only for the Telangana state but also in the country.
